To test abilities of the 6 national teams competing in the International competition, they underwent a face-to-face competition at The Imperial College, London in January and also, battled it out in an online competition on 20 February.
Teams from Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Norway and UK had no easy task in having to compete in 2 rounds of the International PetroChallenge. Whilst a face-to-face competition gave them more confidence when dealing with the important negotiations, the online event definitely tested the teams capabilities with them having to rely much more on their own research. As joint winners of this year’s title both teams go back to their schools with pride. The winning school from Iceland, Framhaldsskólinn í Austur Skaftafellssýslu in Hofn, were represented by Johannes Odinsson, Otto Marvin Gunnarsson and Sigfinnur Björnsson and have now taken home a second International PetroChallenge trophy for their school. Byåsen High School, from Trondheim in Norway had a team of energetic and motivated participants. Thomas Hultgren Svee, Viktor Zoric, Fjelltun Markus Lovas and Per Julian Saether were very pleased to be called the First Norwegian International PetroChallenge winners, especially after having to compete in a local school round but also in a National competition before being able to compete in the International Final. All the teams were able to participate in the International Final and experience a weekend in London because of the kind sponsorship of Chevron, DONG, Maersk Oil & Gas , OLF, Opito-The Oil and Gas Academy and the Orkustofnun.
