Oil Me Up of Bucksburn Academy, Aberdeen, definitely was on the up when they secured first position and the highest return on investment at this year's OPITO PetroChallenge Aberdeen.

Their ROI of 16,615% meant that once they took the lead from teams at Meldrum Academy, there was no catching up with them, no matter how much exploration drilling they completed.

Charlie, Hannah, Michelle and Samantha, from Oil Me Up were extremely proud to be the first team from Bucksburn to take the PetroChallenge title for their school.  Now they have to wait for the results of the other OPITO PetroChallenge UK events later in the year, to see if they will go forward to represent the UK at the International Final in January.

Industry and University collaboration

Throughout the PetroChallenge event, held at Robert Gordon University's School of Computer Studies on 26-27 June 2012, 43 teams from 13 secondary schools across Aberdeen City and Shire experienced the real life challenges of oil and gas exploration during the training and competition days.

Also, the 172 students benefited from hearing career stories from some of their PetroChallenge sponsors, including Taqa, Aker Solutions, IADC and Nexen.

The combination of hands-on OilSim challenges and the company insights made for a truly memorable educational event, which had both students and teachers leaving for their journeys home, with a smile on their faces and ROI's in the bag for each and every team.
