PetroChallenge

Simprentis organizes large scale PetroChallenge courses and competitions together with local authorities and industry at high-schools and secondary schools.

There are no strict age limits for PetroChallenge participants, but in general the PetroChallenge course and competitions are for those taking the final 2-3 years in high-school / secondary school before university.  For university students there is the PetroUniversity course and competition, and Simprentis also organises summer camps and other OilSim courses for younger pupils. For graduates and people working in industry, Simprentis has a portfolio of industry training courses .

PetroChallenge is a dynamic online educational course and competition where the students are grouped in teams. Each team acts as a virtual petroleum company in the business simulation OilSim. The team's challenge is to explore and discover oil and gas.

In 2012, PetroChallenge courses and competitions were organized in North America and Northern Europe: USA, Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Faroe Islands, UK, Norway, and Denmark

Seven of the eight - all but USA - national 2012 winners represented their country in the annual PetroChallenge International Final at Imperial College in London (UK) on 26 January 2013. The team from Canada won the 2012 final. Please see international winners since 2002 below.

International Winners of PetroChallenge since 2002

Below is an overview of the teams that have won the international PetroChallenge since 2002. The first year, only teams from the Faroe Islands participated, but since then 5 to 7 nations have been represented each year.

In the early years, the competition was named Xplore and later just OilSim, and since 2010 it has been called PetroChallenge. In the early years, teams participated in the final from their schools, but since 2006 the final has been held in London, and at Imperial College London since 2008.

  • Denmark has won 3 times
  • United Kingdom, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands (if we do not include 2002) have won 2 times each
  • Norway and Canada have won 1 time each
  • Greenland is the only participating country that has not won yet
