One of the key decisions when setting up an OilSim scenario is whether the participants should be oil and gas companies or they should be petroleum authorities. It is even possible to have both in the same session.
Traditionally, participants in OilSim sessions were oil and gas companies. Starting in April 2011, it became possible for participants to be petroleum authorities, and it is even possible for sessions to be set up so that some teams are oil and gas companies, while one team is the authority. Oil and gas companiesWhen you are an oil and gas company in OilSim, your role is to take the decisions from the perspective of the oil and gas company. Depending on how the other scenario parameters are set up, you will normally be asked to maximize value for the company whilst acting in a sustainable and responsible way. Starting from the beginning, your tasks are: to do the initial screening of the area, do prospecting and bid for licenses, go into partnerships with others and drill exploration wells, make a plan to deplete the reservoirs, make a plan to construct the necessary production facilities, construct the facilities and drill the production and injection wells, and finally operate the asset until it is decommissioned. Petroleum authoritiesWhen you are a petroleum authority in OilSim, your role is to take the decisions from the perspective of the society. Your role is to maximize economic value for the society, whilst protecting society from environmental and other adverse effects of the industry. Starting from the beginning, your tasks are: deciding on the fiscal terms, choosing which areas to offer and in which order, awarding licenses to oil and gas companies, granting or declining exploration drilling requests, and reviewing field development plans. Training courses and educational eventsIn most training courses and educational events provided by Simprentis, you are an oil and gas company. However, in OilSim Authorities training courses you are a petroleum authority. |
