OilSim Carbon Capture and Storage

1002_360

Get an overall understanding of the carbon capture and storage challenges and alternatives.

What will you learn?

On completion of the workshop, you will be able to answer questions like:

* Where and how can CO2 be captured?
* Where and how can CO2  be stored?
* What are the economic drivers and the practical limits when capturing and storing CO2?

Who should participate?

Anyone in the oil and gas industry.

Course content

One of the biggest challenges facing the oil and gas industry is the increased focus on CO2 emissions, and one of the most promising solutions is to capture the CO2 and store it in geological structures.

In the OilSim Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) workshop, your team is a petroleum company that has found a big gas field with too much CO2 content. You are not permitted to emit any of the excess CO2, and your challenge is to make the gas field and surrounding fields commercially viable.

You go through four challenges:

- Discover the hidden potential (drill exploration wells)
- Appraisal
- Drainage and injection plan
- Facilities plan and connecting to external sources

The course covers both CO2 in gas reservoirs and CO2 from power plants, as well as geological storage and the use of CO2 for enhanched oil recovery.
